Attorney Profile
David R. Whittaker
Attorney David R. Whittaker has been handling a wide range of probate,
estate planning and estate litigation matters in Nashville, Davidson County,
Williamson County, and middle Tennessee since 2001. What truly sets him
apart from the rest, however, is that he maintains a humble background
as a general contractor. Now, he possesses the ability to build effective
legal cases for clients who are dealing with both probate and construction
law matters—which can also be attributed to the fact that he offers
more than a decade of probate law experience and is whole-heartedly dedicated
to providing his clients with the individualized attention that they deserve.
Combining Two Passions
David's has strong ties to the construction business—he has been
involved in the industry for more than 23 years. He grew up in east Tennessee,
where he worked on construction projects with his father, who was a contractor.
David came to love the business and became a licensed contractor himself
in 1990 after graduating from the University of Tennessee with honors.
Through this line of work, he built resident and commercial structures.
In 1998, however, he decided to pursue his other passion—the study
of law. He attended the University of Memphis Law School and received
his Juris Doctor (J.D.) in 2001. During his law school experience, Mr.
Whittaker received various honors and accolades, which included the following:
- Cecil C. Humphreys Fellowship Scholarship
- Jerome Rosengarten's Scholarship for Real Property Law
- Dean's Award of Academic Excellence in Civil Procedure II
-
Membership to the
Tennessee Journal of Practice and Procedure
David has had the fortune of serving in an externship for (then) U.S. District
Judge Julia Gibbons while he was in law school. After obtaining his law
degree, he served as an associate for a law firm in Chattanooga, Tennessee,
where he practiced civil litigation, including workers' compensation,
construction law and insurance defense. In 2002, he opened his own law
firm—
David Whittaker, Attorney at Law—where he now combines his construction background with his legal
training to assist individuals with legal matters related to construction
law and probate. The Nashville probate lawyer is licensed to practice
law by the Tennessee Bar.
David continues his involvement in the construction industry. Most recently,
he constructed a home for his family. Mr. Whittaker enjoys living in Brentwood
with his wife of 20 years, his son and his mother. Along with traveling
and spending time with his family, David is an avid sportsman who loves
spending time outdoors. Furthermore, he and his entire family are involved
in the "Heart for Children" adoption ministry at Christ Presbyterian
Church. David is also a member of the Rotary International of Brentwood
and is the Den Leader for his son's cub scouts troop.
